The PRISM chatbot was built on GPT-4 immediately following its release. This ensured AEPW’s platform was powered by one of the most capable AI models at the time, while still capable of being continuously updated with newer models post-handover.

About the client

The Alliance to End Plastic Waste (AEPW) is a global non-profit engine dedicated to transitioning the world toward a circular economy for plastics. Founded in 2019, the Alliance acts as a strategic orchestrator, convening over 70 member companies across the entire plastic value chain, from resin producers to waste managers, to bridge the gap between waste mismanagement and scalable circular solutions.

The challenge

AEPW envisioned a platform to help solve the global plastic waste crisis, but faced key technical hurdles. They needed to upgrade their web presence, handle global-scale data without sacrificing performance, and build an AI chatbot that could intelligently interact with a dynamic map.

Visualizing Global-Scale Data
AEPW's data on plastic waste is global, sourced from over 800 providers, namely UN Environment Programme, World Wildlife Fund (WWF), and International Union for Conservation of Nature, etc. The primary challenge was to process and display this immense dataset on an interactive map smoothly, without performance lags, while ensuring the information could be updated continuously through a reliable data pipeline.
Creating Reliable AI-Map Interaction
The core innovation was a chatbot that could control the map. We had to overcome the probabilistic nature of AI to create deterministic actions, ensuring user queries for "where to zoom" or "what to highlight" were translated into precise, reliable map interactions every time.
Modernizing the Old UX & UI
The existing website was not equipped to handle this new level of interactivity. The challenge was to completely overhaul UX & UI, creating an engaging, intuitive, and professional interface that would empower decision-makers to easily explore complex data and derive meaningful insights.
